Omiš Riviera & Cetina Canyon: A Local Guide for Villa Guests
Villa M&D sits on the Omiš Riviera in Dugi Rat, ten minutes from one of the most dramatic stretches of the Dalmatian coast. The medieval town of Omiš, the turquoise Cetina River and a chain of pebble beaches are all within an easy drive. Here is how we recommend our guests spend their days.

Rafting the Cetina River
The Cetina Canyon is the signature day trip on the Omiš Riviera. A standard rafting tour starts at Penšići or Radmanove Mlinice, runs about 12 km of mostly easy rapids, and finishes near Omiš old town. Expect waterfalls, swimming stops and natural pools — suitable for families with kids over six. Book a morning slot in summer; afternoons get busy and the canyon walls keep the water cool.
Mirabela & Starigrad Fortresses
Two fortresses watch over Omiš. Mirabela (Peovica) is a fifteen-minute climb from the old town and gives you the postcard view of the Cetina meeting the sea. Starigrad (Fortica) sits much higher on the hill — a steeper hike of around an hour, but the panorama over Brač and Hvar is worth it. Wear proper shoes and bring water; both forts are unshaded.

Beaches close to the villa
- Dugi Rat beach — the long pebble beach below the villa. Shallow entry, beach bars, good for families. Five minutes on foot.
- Velika Plaža, Omiš — a wide sandy beach at the mouth of the Cetina, ten minutes by car.
- Slime & Vrulja — small hidden coves below Mimice, twenty minutes south. Crystal water, almost no crowds.
- Brela & Punta Rata — the famous white-pebble Makarska Riviera beach, around forty minutes by car.
Where to eat
- Radmanove Mlinice — riverside restaurant in the Cetina Canyon. Lamb under the bell, trout, shaded tables by the water. Reserve ahead.
- Konoba u Našeg Marina, Omiš — small family konoba in the old town for grilled fish and peka. Walk-in only, go early.
- Bistro Kaštil Slanica — informal lunch spot at the river mouth, good for a swim-and-eat afternoon.
- Stari Komin, Tugare — a fifteen-minute drive into the hills behind the villa for traditional Dalmatian peka in a stone courtyard.

Day trips from Villa M&D
- Split — Diocletian's Palace and the Riva are a thirty-minute drive north. Park at Sukoišan and walk in.
- Brač (Bol & Zlatni Rat) — ferry from Split takes you to Supetar in under an hour; continue to Bol for the iconic Zlatni Rat beach.
- Hvar — catamaran from Split to Hvar Town, around an hour. Good as a long day trip.
- Krka National Park — about ninety minutes by car. Skradinski Buk waterfalls and a boat ride into the canyon.
Practical tips
- · Rent a car — public transport on the Riviera is limited and the best beaches are off the bus line.
- · The coastal road (D8) is slow in July and August; leave early for ferry trips.
- · Bring water shoes for the pebble beaches and the river.
- · Most konobas accept cards now, but smaller places in the hills are still cash only.
