Best Beaches in Dugi Rat and Duće

Villa M&D sits above one of the longest continuous stretches of swimmable coast in central Dalmatia. Between Dugi Rat and Duće you have roughly seven kilometres of pebble and sand beaches, most of them free, most with parking. Here is which one to pick, and when.

Clear Adriatic water along the pebble coast of Dugi Rat

Dugi Rat town beach

The closest swim to the villa — about five minutes on foot downhill. Fine pebble with a gentle, shallow entry, a concrete promenade, showers and two beach bars. Free street parking along the promenade, though it fills before 10:00 in July and August. Best in the morning; the afternoon maestral wind picks up small waves here.

Duće sandy beach (Nemira to Duće)

The rarity on this coast: real sand, and shallow water that stays waist-deep for twenty or thirty metres. That makes it the best choice with small children. Roughly a five-minute drive south from the villa, with a large free gravel car park behind the beach and several konobas across the road. Shade is limited — bring an umbrella or rent a sunbed near the bars.

Velika Plaža, Omiš

Ten minutes by car at the mouth of the Cetina. Wide sand-and-pebble mix, full facilities: sunbeds, showers, lifeguards in season, paddleboard and jet-ski rental, and the old town a two-minute walk away for lunch. Paid parking near the river bridge, so combine it with a morning in Omiš rather than a quick dip.

Quieter coves worth the drive

  • Krilo Jesenice — small harbour beaches ten minutes north, quiet even in August, with pine shade right at the waterline.
  • Slime and Vrulja — hidden pebble coves below Mimice, about twenty minutes south. Steep access paths, almost no crowds, exceptionally clear water.
  • Punta Rata, Brela — the famous white-pebble beach of the Makarska Riviera, around forty minutes by car. Go early; parking is the bottleneck.

Practical tips

  • · Water shoes make pebble beaches far more comfortable, especially for children.
  • · Sea temperature is around 22 °C in June and peaks near 26 °C in August.
  • · Morning is calm and glassy; the afternoon breeze brings light chop from the west.
  • · Beach bars take cards, but small kiosks and parking attendants often want cash.
